Hardwood can sometimes be installed over a sound, flat subfloor or certain existing floors without a full tear-out, but carpet, most vinyl, and anything uneven or damaged typically has to go first. We check what you have and how it sits during the estimate, since installing over the wrong surface causes problems with the new floor down the road.
